Today is my half birthday! yay!! I am feeling just a whirlwind of emotions today after reaching this milestone. 27 1/2! On my 17 1/2th birthday, I remember thinking, 'WOW, I wonder if I'll ever make it to 27 1/2.' It seemed so old and wise and now look at me, 10 years later, and still so much left to accomplish. To all those young readers out there, keep working hard and loving life and someday, you can feel the joy I'm feeling reaching the big 27 1/2.

Annoying
So something that really bugs me, but will probably not bother anyone who is not a New York resident but I HATE it is when TV shows make distance inaccuracy errors. 3 examples: 2 today that I just saw on a Sex and the City episode and one froma movie.
1. I just saw Carrie and Samantha walking down 6th Ave and 10th St. they said, come on, hurry up, we don't want to be late for our reservation at Pastis. Well, Pastis is a restaurant on 9th ave and 12th st. NOT close by any means to where they were. And dressed in the outfits they were in, they weren't going to be able to walk.
2. Carrie was supposed to have a birthday party at il Cantinori, an italian restaurant at about 8th st and broadway. Well, Stanford went to the wrong place, a mexican restaurant called el cantanora on 11th and University. Those are RIGHT by each other. MAYBE 5 blocks away. There should be no reason that he couldn't have popped over in under 5 minutes to the right place.
3. In the movie The Devil Wears Prada the main character says, I have to get from my office (midtown) to Magnolia cupcake (WAAAY down and over in the west village) and back to my apartment (upper east side) before 7 (it was like 615.) That is not possible at ALL, especially at that time of day. She had 50 blocks at least down to Magnolia, in a taxi traffic would be horrible, then there is always a line at that place! Then to get back up to the upper east side, it's roughly 80 blocks up and 6 over. A REALLY long way. No chance she could do it in the time allotted unless she had a hovercraft. :)

Running and Flat Stanley
been feeling like running a lot again lately. today i ran 5 miles on the treadmill. certainly is good for the stress release.
My cutie pie 7 year old cousin Dylan is reading the story of Flat Stanley in his class. Flat Stanley is a little boy who is flat (duh) who goes on adventures all over the world. So the kids choose the person they think has fun adventures and mail flat Stanley off to him/her. My nicely colored Flat Stanley arrived in the mail and we've already done a few fun things. Will have a full photo album for him that I'll share when it's done. Have to make it a surprise though!!

Catwoman!!
So I just went to the COOLEST event ever. I was in the most bummed out mood earlier in the day, and this night REALLY turned it around!! It was for the National Visionary Leadership Project which is an organization that promotes accomplished elders to mentor and pass on their wisdom to youth in their fields. It's really cool. But they had an awards ceremony tonight which honored Cissy Houston (whit's mom), Quincy Jones (the man responsible for THRILLER!!) and, last but not least, my GIRL, one of the awesomest people I've ever had the pleasure of being in the same room with, Ms. Eartha Kitt. She is 81 and just as unbelievably awesome a diva as ever! Her best line during her acceptance speech was this. She is performing some shows at a hotel here in the city and she said "Now, I see some ladies here tonight have worn knee length dresses. I chose to wear mine down to the floor. If you want to see my legs, you're going to have to pay for it!" Then she purred!! She's amazing. Ok, enough gushing over Eartha. Hope everyone has a nice weekend. Tonight was the first night I walked outside and smelled that sweetness in the air like it's summer. Love it.

gorgeous day
Couple things today...
1.) I just walked from my apartment up to the New York Sports Club on 51st and Broadway that I used to go to when I worked up there, worked out and walked back. A good 6 miles round trip. Feels good.
2.) I've had some good celebrity sightings lately that I don't think I've shared. Just today I saw the bald judge from Top Chef - Tom Colocchio on 20th st and 5th ave. I may have already mentioned this one but I saw Matthew Broderick and his kid James a few weeks ago on the street RIGHT by my old apartment. Now this is like below D list, closer to H or J list but I saw one of the housewives from the real housewives of New York on the B train. And I saw Richie Rich who designs Heatherette (and has been a guest judge on Project Runway) at Starbucks the other day. All pretty fun.
3.) We have just entered into one of two weeks per year when I not only do not complain about but really like the weather. There is only 1 week in April and 1 week in October. Don't worry, I'll start to complain that it's too hot and humid next week, but for now, I'm really happy about it!
4.) On the last post, the comment I deleted was from my FABO cousin Steve. He wrote "LAME" and left it anonymously. Let that be a lesson to you, nasty anonymous comments will be deleted. :) I sure hope he hasn't abandoned the blog entirely because of this. He's one of my favorite readers and commenters. Love you, Stevie!!

My hero
So today, a nice man named Richie, AKA the EXTERMINATOR came by my apartment!! Not only did he give me some good mouse fighting tips and tools, but he also told me an interesting fact about my apartment. Turns out that grammy award-winning singer John Legend is my next door neighbor!! not in my building, but he lives in the building next door! Anyway, i have officially won the battle against the mouse. Have a nice life outside, SUCKA!
Also, today I was reminded that friends, especially in NYC, are hard to come by. It's important to keep good ones.

Interesting thought - astrology
So I don't know how much credibility I, or anyone else, puts into astrology, but I think it is really interesting to read the different signs and characteristics of each. Now, I'm not talking astrology here as reading your daily horoscope and finding out you might have something interesting happen tomorrow in your career/relationship/family but really reading into the sign and taking a look at the behaviors inside yourself that correspond. Now, as most of you know, my birthday is October 23, making me a Scorpio (although I'm sort of close to Libra as well). I have had a somewhat tumultuous last few days and when I really take an introspective look at myself over those few days, I see almost every characteristic and behavior that is always associated with Scorpio in both the way I feel and the way I act. I certainly have no control over the feelings and I wouldn't have acted differently if I knew it was "Scorpio" behavior but it's interesting to me. And these are definitely not overgeneralized statements that could apply to everyone. I have met very few other people who either behave in the same manner or to whom I have been able to communicate exactly what goes on inside my head, yet the scorpio sign seems to hit it right on the head. I don't know precisely what to make of it, but I do put a bit of cred in it.

Rangers
So I inadvertently got myself into not necessarily watching, but acknowledging that the NY Rangers are playing in the NHL playoffs and putting on a jersey of a player named Bure during each game. I watched the game tonight with my friend JP, wore the jersey and the Rangers won. Guess hockey fans are really superstitious. Well, go Rangers until they lose or win it all now I guess.

The battle continues
Well, my traps were set last night, but no luck with el mousie. I just saw him and put the trap out RIGHT by where he was. Keep your fingers crossed. Sure is grody!
The BEST of NYC
So this afternoon, I was at Starbucks waiting for my drink and this drink for 'monica' was called like 3 times. Finally the guy who was with this monica character comes up and right as they say 'monica' again they put my drink down and he snatches mine up. Leaving the one that was sitting there for monica that if he had been paying attention he would have known was hers. So i say, um no i dont think that one is for monica. And he says, yes it is, they just said her name and huffs off to his table. So then, monica takes a drink, realizes it isn't hers and he comes skulking back up to the counter with MY drink and says, 'oh, you were right.' Oh, really??? No I'm sorry for taking your drink or anything. So then i had to have them remake it cause monica took a sip and i very loudly said to the barista 'NO dont worry, it sure wasnt YOUR fault!!' Some people.

This means war!
I don't know what this little punk ass mouse thinks he's doing, but he messed with the wrong person. My traps are locked and loaded. And he's going on the defensive. He better pray that he makes it through the night.
ALERT
There is a mouse in my apartment. As you can see it is 215 am and I can't sleep because there is a mouse hanging out under the cupboard in my kitchen. I have seen him about 5 times now. Quite frankly, I don't care that he's here. And I don't mind him eating my crumbs, but i am so utterly freaked that he (keep saying he, not sure why I have decided it is a boy) might climb up on me while I sleep, that I cannot sleep. I know the reason that he is here is because when kate was here my apartment became a DISASTER and I didn't have a chance to really clean it up before I left for DC. Now dishes are done, trash is out but he is still here so it's going to take a few traps and a few days of braveness to get rid of him! If only we had thought to throw out our burritos take out before I left for my weekend trip!!
I'm officially freaked. SO FREAKED I haven't gotten off my bed. UGH!!!
Anyway, had a great weekend in DC. LOVED seeing baby Maddy. I've never seen anything as cute as she is! the CUTEST.
So yeah, I think I'll surround myself with stuff that the mouse can't get on my bed and then try to go to sleep, not sure if it'll help, but I must try to sleep. i HATE THIS!!!

DC
No one has ANY comments on that ridic ad!??! I can't get enough.
So Kate was here this weekend. So much fun. We saw Mary Poppins, one of the greatest few hours of our lives. We loved the movie so much when we were kids that we wore out our tape! As the lady who plays mary poppins in the play was making her exit kate yelled "SECOND best Mary Poppins, EVER!!!!!" She was REALLY good. But obvi no Julie Andrews. we're related to her you know.
On saturday we went out dancing and Kate and her entourage locked themselves out of my apartment. Well done. It was a great weekend though.
This weekend, I'm headed to DC on Friday for a weekend of Keegan fun. REALLY looking forward to seeing the fam. It's been too long.
