My sister is the best!!

I moved today, into the sweetest apartment! Kate came up to help me. We had a super fun weekend. Friday night: Drinks at Ryan's Irish Pub. Saturday: Walk with Delilah, a bit of packing, dinner at Ryan's, movie and dessert at Cafe Centosette (the BEST cheesecake). Then this morning, we got up and the movers were there by 9. We got everything from the east village apartment and the storage unit to the West Village apartment and without Kate, I would still be attempting to put my bed together. Imagine this scene if you can:
Anne starts maneuvering the pieces of the bedframe around and saying "I'm going to put this together, it won't take too long." Soon thereafter, Kate sees the trainwreck that is about to occur: Anne building a bed with no instructions, a bag of hardware and a limited amount of time. Anyone who has seen my building skills knows this was cause for immediate alarm. She intervenes immediately. Up she popped, declared herself the Ikea furniture queen (which I agree with!!) and whipped that bed up. She rocks!!
Thanks again Cookie for coming up. I had a REALLY fun time wuf you and Delilah, and I couldn't have done it without you!

Dos mas cosas (2 more things)

1. Many of the signs in trains and around town are in spanish and english so I like to read the spanish and see if I understand and then read the english to see if I got it. Or ATMs, sometimes I will choose to use them in spanish just for the fun of it!

2. There is this really cool feature on the google toolbar that you can turn on that is a translator. So when you're on a webpage, and you hover over a word with the mouse, it will pop up a little box with the different spanish translations for that particular word. Anyway, it's really cool!!

Hasta Luego!!

Spanish

So I think I have to write again about how much I'm enjoying my Spanish lessons (mostly because the first time I wrote it in spanish!) My teacher is really great. She is from the Dominican Republic and we talk about my trip there all the time and our goal is to get me speaking well before I go back next January. The great thing about New York is there are Spanish speakers all over the city so I actually have an opportunity to practice. For example, at the cafe down at the bottom of my office building, all the cashiers speak spanish, so when I go down there and order my coffee and breakfast, I speak to them in spanish.

Oh yeah, and I also just hired some movers. It's pretty funny, all the movers in NY advertise with things like "2 men and a truck" or "a guy and a van." I hired 2 men and a truck for the big move this weekend. I can't wait!

Where did it go?!

Just as fast as the 2 feet of snow was dumped on our doorsteps, it's now all gone!! Out came the sun, it's now 50 degrees and our winter wonderland has disappeared. Not a MOMENT too soon!

Snowstorm!!!!!

It started snowing around 8 last night (just as I was on my way to watch Gonzaga win their game vs. Stanford!) and it hasn't stopped since! As you can see from these pics, quite a bit of snow has accumulated and it's still going strong. I'd say there are close to 2 feet on the ground. I think i'll hunker down for the rest of the day.

Lewis...this one's for you!

Today I saw not one, but TWO glaring typos in public signs. It always baffles me how people can send a sign through approval processes, graphics people, designers, printers, and whoever else has to look at them without ANYONE noticing this typo. On one sign, there were only two words, and one was misspelled. That one was on a "Crunch" and a HUGE sign over the main entrance to the gym said "No Judgements." There's no "e" in judgment!! It's one of those words in the dictionary that has a "variant" spelling because so many people misspell it, but really, there is no "e!"
The second was even more ridiculous. Cosi sandwich shop (which has the most delicious Mozzarella, Tomato and Basil sandwich by the way) always has a little something cutsie scrolling across the registers that aren't open. Today's said "If their is no sun...then it is night!" Ok, 1. That isn't even cute, it's just stupid! and 2. I had a hard time typing the "their" in that because it is so glaringly wrong.
Just a pet peeve of mine, we all know how to use a dictionary, or even ASK SOMEONE who knows if everything is spelled correctly!!

Urban Churches/synagogues

So something I've been noticing a lot in the city lately, are the incredibly neat urban churches/synagogues. Many of them, most notably St. Patrick's cathedral look like they could be out of 18th century Europe, but here they are right in the middle of New York City. They are intricately decorated and are often nestled among huge high rise buildings. It is a very interesting juxtaposition and I'm always pleasantly surprised when I come across one. This is St. Bartholomew's, I ran into it today on Park Avenue.

new apartment!!

Well, I'm happy to report that upon approval of my credit application, I will be moving into a new apartment in the West Village. I'll be on the same street, 10th, but I'm going across the island to the west side. this apartment will be better for a number of reasons. 1. My room is literally twice the size of the room I have now. Thank goodness. 2. The West Village is MUCH more accessible than the East Village. There are tons of subways that converge right where my apartment will be. PLUS, the PATH train, a series of trains that go to New Jersey and that I take every week to get to MSNBC TV stops right in front of that apartment. And my new roomie will be way fun. She's 28, in pharmaceutical sales, just seems like a fun gal! I'm psyched. Keep your fingers crossed for a successful credit check!

Johnny Depp

Has anyone else noticed that Johnny Depp seems to get better looking and younger looking the older he gets?!! I don't think he's human!
