great night

Dodgeball was tonight and it was fun. We're now 3-3, a respectable record. the best part of my day was the food. I had pizza before the game, plenty of beer after the game and 2 bowls of honey bunches of oats after I got home. too delicious to describe. I know I owe details about a date but sorry, I've been out every day since. I'll work on it this weekend!!

Forgot to respond...

To follow up on a question Marylou asked the other day, Bob's book is due out in late January. It's supposed to be on the shelves for the New Year's resolution season, but will not make the Christmas rush. Seems like they should have tried for that season to me, but what do I know about book publishing!? So there you go! Look for it at your local Barnes and Noble then.

It's official

Michael will be arriving in NY on Saturday to collect his award on Sunday. woohoo! Let the hysteria begin.

A little bit crazy

So last night was the book party and it was a rousing success. I got to see a lot of old friends from MSNBC.com who I haven't seen in awhile and Bob had a great turnout in support of him. All in all, a great party! I had an awesome dinner afterwards too with my friends. Wild mushroom ravioli and warm goat cheese salad. I can still taste it.
I have a bit of a ridiculous dinner/drinks date that's happening sometime this weekend. Some people already know about it, but I'm not going to reveal details yet (It's much more fun to let imaginations run wild...but let me tell you, whatever your imagination can come up with, it might not be as crazy ridiculous as the actual thing!) but will give an update after it happens.

Pictures

I have a lot of great pictures from this weekend that i"m going to put up on Flickr to share with everyone, however my ever so reliable "borrowed" internet at my apartment was down all day yesterday. It's back up and running today so hopefully after the book party tonight, I'll be able to upload those and get them out. I'll let everyone know when I do.

A special shout out!

Today is MB's birthday!! We had a great celebration for her yesterday with cake and ice cream. Hope today was great and hope this year is the best yet. xoxo

Napping at work

So today I'm the only one at my office. Everyone else is on vacation or traveling. I was thinking about pulling a George Costanza and setting up a little naptime under my desk. It seemed like a brilliant idea until I remembered that I worked for a video technology company. Who knows what kind of filming is going on! Anyone think I can pull it off!?

book party

My friend Bob is having a book party this week. He wrote a book called Gotcha Capitalism, all about hidden fees and ways to avoid getting ripped off. Random House is publishing and the launch party for the book is on Wednesday. I'm really excited. Anyone in NY let me know if you want to come.
This weekend I spent with my friend Drew down in DC visiting my awesome family! My dad was in town from montana so we drove down friday night and had full on Keegan fun for the whole weekend. I got to see all 5 of my Dad's brothers and sisters and a good number of my cousins. My friends Brian and Julia also came over from College Park for the keegan crab feast we had on Sunday. It was their first time picking crabs and they got thrown right in. They did great and it was great to see them!
I'm back in NY now but totally worn out.
This next weekend, my cousin Michael is coming up! He is a finalist for a Folio award which recognizes excellence in magazine work, for an article he wrote about Virginia lacrosse. Hopefully his lovely girlfriend Emily will come along too. They're always great fun!
Other than that, all that is going on this week is dodgeball. Maybe I can catch up on my sleep from my crazy weekend!

Dodgeball started again last night. No time to write about it now, but let me just say, the Ball Busters are 2-0 and primed for another ridiculously awesome season!!

9/11

So it's 9/11 today and one thing I've noticed is that it's raining. For the last 2 years it has been gorgeous, the exact same way it was in 2001. I think I like it raining better. Wanted to share something with everyone. This is a story one of my very good friends Will Femia wrote back in 2003. I think he really captured the power of the day in this story. Read...

Dang My boys

So there is this show on TBS called My Boys that is one of those shows that I don't really like but I still watch it because, well I don't have any other channels and it's oddly addicting. Anyway, today was the season finale and they did that thing where 2 people are getting together but they don't tell you who the other person is. I don't mind when shows do this for one week, but now I'm annoyed that I have to wait until the next season to see who it is. BOOO. I just wish I hadn't watched.

Lazy Sunday

Or not! my Sunday was very productive. I cleaned my whole apt, did my laundry and went to the gym today! Great day! Speaking of laundry, I saw MY laundromat, where I do my laundry every 2 (maybe 3) weeks on an episode of Law and Order, Criminal Intent that I saw the other day!!

Anyway, I've got a lot to cover since I've been working so much. Sorry for my lack of postings. First of all, right now, I'm watching meet the Fockers, and I really can't stand it. It's too awkward. Football it is I guess.

So my new job is going really great. This last week I hired a PR firm and I'm really looking forward to getting started working with them. They know the industry really well and have great contacts so I think my company is going to go from unknown, to major player in no time! HOORAY! It feels great to be a part of something growing like this.

My weekend activities: More Port Authority bowling, Dave and Busters, Waverly diner at 3 am for KILLER french toast. Comix comedy club, girls night out at Cowgirls (yes, MB, we did get the baked potato dessert. It's to DIE FOR!!) It was a busy fun weekend.

This coming week is going to be interesting. For a number of reasons:
1. Dodgeball starts on Thursday. I'm very excited, and somewhat nervous about what it will be like to have to go to work the day after! Unemployment and dodgeball were a good combo!
2. I'm going to DC this weekend with my friend Drew. My newly-retired Dad is going to be there along with my Aunt MB and all the usual suspects who live there. I"m really excited to see them all!! And I think I'll get to see Julia and maybe Brian too, so I'm double excited!
3. It's 9/11 on Tuesday. I saw the 2 beams of light that they put up into the sky in the absence of the towers on Friday. They're neat. I'll take some pics again as I plan to go down there. I've felt a little uneasy thinking about it lately for a couple reasons. First, the obvious of the fact that it's 9/11 and such an emotional day in the city and second, it reminds me of my friend Mohan who died in January. I know I haven't written very much about him since then but I really miss him. We had a really nice time last year on 9/11. He, our friend Drew and I all met down there and took pictures and paid respects. Then we all walked all the way back up to the west village (LONG walk) and had dinner at the Waverly Diner. I remember him saying that he went to the world trade center site every year and felt a strong connection with the city on that day. I guess I'll do a little bit of double duty on Tuesday, respects to 9/11 and to him.

Missoulian Article

Great article about my dad in the Missoulian today! So it's funny, when we were kids, we knew he worked at the Bureau of Business and Economic Research at the U of Montana but we were never sure exactly what he did there. Tyler Christiansen of the Missoulian nailed it, I finally get it! :)
Congrats, Dad! Read...

The cyclone!!

I just got back from a fun-filled day at Coney Island. We sat on the beach, ate Nathan's dogs, rode the Wonder Wheel, the Bumper Cars and the Cyclone! I rode the Cyclone twice. It was a really good time. It's wooden and rickety and doesn't look that fast but when you get on it, it is WICKED fast! Nothing I like more than a good roller coaster! My grandfather used to love it too, my rides were in honor of him today!!

WOW! A whole week

Feels like last week flew by. My new job is really keeping me busy and I've been going out a lot during the week. Seems like Friday and Saturday night are recovery days from the rest of the week these days. So things at my new job are really good. My boss was in town at the end of the week and we're really starting to make progress. A little background, this company has been operating in the US for about a year and a half and really have ZERO market presence even though the technology is really awesome. So we're trying to get things ramped up. We met with a PR firm on Friday who are known for being really aggressive and results-driven, which is what we really need. We need to make a big splash ASAP so it looks like we're going to hire them. I'm really excited about it, I left the meeting with a great feeling and then it just continued to get better throughout the day the more I thought about them. So things at work are great!
Now speaking of amazing careers, my Dad retired yesterday!! After 30+ years of stellar work in the forest products industry at the University of Montana he handed it off to his very competent #2, Todd. Sounds like he had a great last day topped off with champagne, dinner, drinks with his colleagues and lots of congratulatory phone calls! Congrats, Dad!! Thanks for always working hard for us, now your new job is fish and fish and fish! More celebration to come, including party and Missoulian feature article. YAY!
