Ridiculous music

Ok, I've heard many ridiculous songs BLASTING from the street tonight:
-I Love Rock and Roll
-The Venga Bus
-Do you believe in life after love (Cher is a village standard)
-Crocodile Rock

Halloween In NYC

Welcome to Halloween in Greenwich Village, NYC. I was out of town last year for halloween so I didn't get to see how crazy it truly is, but let me tell you, this is mania. there is a parade on 6th Ave (I live right at 6th Ave and W. 10th St.) so I set out to watch the parade. Some pictures below. There were tens of thousands of people on the street. probably a number of stadiums full. Now, the parade is over, and the drunken debauchery begins. No costume here, so i'm going to sleep instead.
The best costume I saw was a dude who had blown up his Facebook profile cut out his head hole, and stuck his face through it. genius. Kate said someone in DC did it with MySpace. REALLY funny.
Well, I hope everyone is sufficiently spooked tonight. Happy Halloween to all!!

Ok these guys weren't actually the blues brothers, but they had suits, sunglasses and hats just like them. And they were singing.

NYPD

I love me some NYPD. As usual they had this crowd control down PAT. No one does it like the NYPD, barricades everywhere, very strategic and safe places for people to cross the street. This guy in white with the bullhorn was in charge of the 6th Ave and W 4th St. intersection and boy howdy was he ever on it! He navigated 3 successful street crossings (and that was no small feat) and two ambulances needing to get through the parade.

There wasn't even really a theme for this one. It was just crazy.

This was the coolest thing out there tonight. I should have taken a video of it, it was this GIANT spider that was being controlled by strings and it really looked like it was creeping along the building. REALLY creepy but really cool.

Tony Soprano

Had a good night of celebrity sightings "in their natural habitat". The first one was tim Robbins playing roller hockey at a rink on 6th avenue and houston st. Then the best one, was James Gandolfini AKA Tony Soprano with his family waiting in line for cupcakes at Magnolia Bakery on Bleecker st. and 11th St. He looked just like Tony Soprano. hehehe.

Job

So it's been a crazy week at NBC, as some of you have read I'm sure. They are closing the Secaucus facility and moving us all to Rockefeller Center. But don't worry, I'm not in danger of losing my job. Just wanted to reassure everyone.
On another NBC note, I am obsessed with Deal or No Deal. Banking their primetime line up on Howie Mandel was a genius move!
I'm going shopping tomorrow with 2 friends, then to dinner and then to a movie to celebrate my birthday. Then on Monday I'm going out to dinner with another one of my friends on my acutal birthday. THEN on tuesday, my Aunt Beth and her mom (Nana) are coming to town and we are going to go out to dinner with my 3 cousins who live in the city. I'm going to give them a tour of NBC too. I can't wait to see them. Should be a good few days!

So this big apple comes out of the hat when someone hits a homerun. We got to see it once with the only scores in the game, a Beltran 2-run blast!

Batting practice

Albert Pujols of the Cardinals hit 5 homers in a row during batting practice. Then he was quiet during the game. That's what I like to see...get them all out of your system during bp!

M-E-T-S, Mets! Mets! Mets!

Ok, I don't really like the Mets this much, but I'm VERY excited about going to the game. I'm heading out right now to take the subway there and I'll send some pics from my phone to the blog during the game. Watch for me!!

Mets!

I'm going to the NLCS on Thursday. Mets vs. Cardinals game 2. Should be a great time! There's nothing more exciting than the playoffs.

Studio 60

If you want to see what my job is like, watch Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, except replace the late night comedy show with news. I've heard LITERALLY every word that comes out of every characters mouth in my office. I'm actually curious to see if anyone else 1. Watches it and 2. Likes it. I think it's a really good show but my friends who also work in TV with me and I were also discussing whether it's too "inside baseball". Is there too much TV lingo for people to like or is it universally entertaining? Please discuss!

subway pet peeve

I have to express a pet peeve that I was on the receiving end of this morning on the subway. So when subway trains leave the station, most of the time they jerk forward a little bit. This happens pretty much across the board on ALL trains. My pet peeve is when people think they can just stand in a crowded train without holding on, and then when the train jerks forward (and if they have been on a train for more than ONE STOP EVER they should know this is going to happen!) go FLYING across the train and run into people. People, if you want to read your newspaper, or use your blackberry, find a seat. Or at least fold up the paper so you can hold on with one hand. I will forgive people who are getting on train for the very first time EVER if that happens, but come on, no one wants to get slammed into by someone who knows full well they need to hold on.

ps.

STUDLY Joe Mauer went 2-4 today and won the AL batting title. I love it!

Magic number: ZERO!!!

Woohoo!! The Twins won the AL Central DIVISION championship on the last day of the season. ROCK ON TWINS!!!!!!!! I was going to be ok with them just winning the wild card because then they would have been headed my way to play the Yanks, but I guess I'll just have to catch them here when they come to play the Mets in the World Series! :) Just another reason why baseball is the greatest sport ever and October is the best month of the year!!!!!!
GO TWINS!

New York weekend

Sorry I haven't been posting lately...I've had a bunch of people in town from work and I had to entertain them. But they've all gone back home now so I have some free time. So this weekend 2 of my friends and I had a very diverse New York experience. On Friday night we had Vietnamese food in chinatown and then went to a comedy club on the lower east side. I'd never been to a comedy club before and it was really fun. Then we came back to the west village and went to my favorite diner for grilled cheese and pickles. Then yesterday we went shopping in Soho (I saw a pair of Betsey johnson boots and a coat at club monaco to DIE for!), then we went to a vegetarian restaurant in the east village and drinks at my old favorite bar, Ryan's irish pub. Very diverse weekend. Today football at a sports bar in my hood. Happy Sunday everyone!
