Kate's opening!

So after a request for details from Marylou, I've decided to extend a shameless plug to my sister's opening! Seniors graduating from the Corcoran College of Art and Design get to have their work displayed in the museum for about a month during the graduation season! So this Thursday, I'm heading down to DC to join her for the opening reception they get to have. It's from 6-8 at the Corcoran and all are welcome! Then her work will be displayed at the museum at least through the weekend of May 15. If you get a chance to get there and see it, you won't be disappointed. She's immensely talented!

busy

So I've decided to share my last 3 weeks of activities so I can give some insight into why I haven't been posting. Quite honestly, I have had a flurry of activity, people in and out of town, dinners, evening work obligations, concerts, dinners, you name it, I've done it in the last 3 weeks! Please note: all of these were preceded by a full day's work. Also please note: I have had so much to do, that I am resconstructing this list not from memory, but from a trail of calendar entries and bank statements.
here goes:
April 3: Catherine (my boss) in town, Colbert Report taping after work
April 4: Dinner out with SS+K
April 5: Clase de espanol
April 6: Dinner out with friends
April 7: Concert in Hoboken, Seeking Homer, dinner with co-workers, drinks with friends until 3am
April 8: Went to see Friends With Money, I didn't like it much.
April 9: Late dinner with 2 coworkers
April 10: Drinks and dinner with our Editor in Chief and co-worker
April 11: Stayed in
April 12: Happy Hour with new East Coast Editor, Editor in Chief and coworkers at Coopersmith's. Dinner out at the Delta Grill after the happy hour.
April 13: Dinner at the Peculiar Pub and a concert at The Bitter End, Ice Wagon Flu, both on Bleeker St, a famous street for music
April 14: Stayed in and watched the Twins on TV!
April 15: Paid my taxes (heehee just kidding, already did that). Went to the Bodies Exhibition in the afternoon with 2 friends from work. SO COOL! Night out with my cousin Trish's boyfriend, Chris and a group of his friends. We went to McSorley's (oldest pub in NYC), the Red Lion (great place for music on Bleeker) and Dallas BBQ for dinner. Out til 3:30
April 16: napped
April 17: Dinner out with our Director of Technology, Travis and his right hand woman, JoAnne
April 18: All day conference for the Online Publisher's Association. They had a cocktail party right after that, I went to it. Then after the cocktail party, I went to a Brazilian restaurant with 4 co-workers (Travis, JoAnne, and 2 others).
April 19: Sunny's birthday :( Our research manager held focus groups, so I went to those from 6pm-11pm.
April 20: Dinner and dessert out with JoAnne. Also a quick subway ride to ground zero. She'd never seen it.
April 21: Clase de espanol. I stayed in and watched a movie
April 22: It rained ALL day. But I went out with 2 friends to the Knitting Factory (music club in TriBeCa) to see Mat Kearney and then we had a late dinner at Osteria Del Sole in the West Village. My friend Bob from work came and met us late, and we had drinks after that.
April 23: My half birthday! I did the Manhattan MS Walk with my cousin Caroline. We got POURED on, but it was fun. Then I went to the movies and saw Thank you for Smoking. Very good. Much better than Friends With Money.
So there you go. Hope I can be forgiven for not posting!

Rainy weekend

This weekend was good. VERY rainy though. Saturday I didn't do much because it was raining really hard. I had plans to meet my friend Bob from work for a really late dinner (he was flying into town) and then my friend Jenn and her boyfriend, Chris, called me and said they were going to this music club called the Knitting Factory (it's really cool, it is literally an old factory that has 3 different levels and bands play on all 3 of the levels). We were on the main stage and we saw a guy called Mat Kearney. He was really good. Just a guy with a guitar and a guy on the keyboard. Lots of fun. The band after him wasn't as good, and Mat Kearney was the opening act. Whatever. It's a really cool venue though. Then we went to have dinner in the West Village at Osteria Del Sole. It's REALLY good. Bob ended up being really late, but we got to hang with him for a bit and it turns out that Chris and Bob both went to Fairfield (so did my cousins) and we had a good time. OH yeah, I did a hard workout on Saturday afternoon too, my muscles staged a protest during it, and now I"m paying for it!
Yesterday, I did the MS Walk with Caroline ("cousin" who lives in the city). It was POURING down rain for the 3 miles (it was 7.5 miles total) but we had fun anyway. It started at the South Street Seaport way down on the bottom of the island, went over to the west side, up the west side hwy, then across the village (right by my apt!!) and back down the middle, through Chinatown and Little Italy and then back to the South Street Seaport. It wouldh ave been a great route if it wasn't pouring. But we still had fun. I took a couple pics, I'll post them when I can get them off my camera at home. Then after that I went to see the movie Thank you for Smoking. It was really good. Very funny. i had some movie theater popcorn, which i love! Then I went to the grocery store and saw Willem Dafoe for the 2nd time in a week. You know, it's just silly that they put a mask on his face to play a villian because he is a CREEPY looking guy in person. He might have been creepier as the Spiderman movie sans the mask! And then I fell asleep early last night cause I was so tired from all my activity!!
Thursday, I'm going down to DC for Kate's opening! I can't wait!
Ok, that's all.

Corn Dogs!!!

So yesterday I went out with my friend Jenn, her two friends Cristina and RJ and Jenn's boyfriend Chris. We went to this place called the Bitter End, a famous venue on Bleeker Street where many a musical act has gotten a start to see a band called Ice Wagon Flu (very fun!!). But anyway, before the show we were at a bar next door called the Peculiar Pub and we were trying to decide whether we should eat there or go somewhere else before the show started. So we took a look at the menu and decided IMMEDIATELY!! They had corn dogs on the menu!!! 2 for $5.25!!! I haven't seen corn dogs on a menu (with the exception of a kids menu which I am almost never allowed to eat off of!) for a really long time. I ordered them up, they arrived with some mustard and ketchup and were SO delicious. I felt like I was back at the Missoula County Fair at the Viking stand. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

American Idol

I have to take a moment and write something about American Idol tonight. Tonight they sang Queen songs, and after listening to all of them, none of them even hold a candle to Freddy Mercury. And the Idols are no slouches! But it's no contest. Which is why Freddy Mercury and Queen is one of the greatest groups of our generation, and we probably won't hear from most of the Idols after the finale.
Anyway, I still loved the show, I spent the whole hour on the treadmill. Don't want Fat Bottomed Girls to be about me! :)

Sunglasses (gafas del sol)

Yesterday on my outing, I was on the hunt for a pair of sunglasses. I was totally unsuccessful in finding one that was less than $300 a pair. So today, I went to H&M (possibly the greatest store ever created) to look for some. JACKPOT!!!!!!!! I found 3 different pairs, one cost $9.90 and the other 2 cost $6.90 each. And they're super cute. I might break/lose them at any moment, but I'm going to try very hard not to and even if I do, they were $25 TOTAL!!
I'll post some pictures of me looking super cool in them when I get home.

Great NY day

So today was one of those days in NY that is the best!! I got up around 10, went across the street and got a big coffee and bagel and cream cheese. Then I went out shopping in my neighborhood for a few hours. I was on the hunt for some new sunglasses. I was not successful in the hunt, but the shopping was still really fun. On my way back I saw Amy Sedaris, a very fun actress walking down the street. Then I came home and my roommate Meredyth and I walked over to Union Square (10 minute walk) to see a movie, Friends with Money (It was ok, I didn't love it, but the popcorn was really good!). Then we walked home and stopped at Whole Foods on the way for some dinner for Meredyth. Now tonight, 2 of my friends are meeting me at my apartment around 8 and we're going to venture out into my neighborhood and have dinner. Good times! Plus it was 60 degrees and sunny all day. GORGEOUS!

GREAT Celebrity Sighting

Tonight I went out with my boss and our new advertising agency to a restaurant in my neighborhood and had a fantastic celebrity sighting. The awesome late 90's rapper and Beyonce's boyf, Jay Z. He was sitting at the table right across the section from us with one other dude and one lady (who was not Beyonce) eating some pasta and drinking a glass of red wine. awesome!
This sighting counts as ideal, defined by spotting the celebrity in his or her "Natural Habitat." Dinner at Otto Restaurant, definitely in my natural habitat!!
