Team Mean Jean NYC

The 2nd Annual (1st with our namesake present!) NY MS Walk was a rousing success! This year's team members included Mean Jean herslf, our Mascot Miller, all the way from LA Kate Keegan, returning walker Caroline Caldwell, up from DC/Baltimore Kim & Casey Skufca, Trish Keegan and Brian & Julia Engel, in from New Jersey my cousin Billy "BK Broiler" Kurzenberger, my friend from in town Drew Sturgill and me. My Aunt Marybeth was here for the weekend leading up to the walk but had to skeedaddle out of here because my cousin Steve was getting an award at Marquette (congrats Steve!!) Sunday morning. She was with us in spirit though! As you can see in the pics, we had t-shirts with Mean Jean's face prominently featured on the front, a bullseye if you will! Our team raised more than $2,000 for the MS society so THANK YOU THANK YOU to everyone who donated and walked. It was a great time.
Mean Jean and Miller are back on the road now headed down to DC. A few days down there with Grandma Keegan and then they're headed back out to Minneapolis for Team Mean Jean on May 5 with my Unk Bill, Aunt Nancy and her family! Cousin Jessie (she's a golden retriever just like Miller!) might participate too. Team Mean Jean across America continues!!
A special thanks to my Unk Bill and his car without whom Mean Jean might not have made it here at all!

My unemployment: Day 4

The weather is NASTY today (horizontal rain!) so I definitely made the right decision on the Brooklyn Bridge yesterday. Today, it'll be a little boring but I'm going to purge as much stuff from my room as I can. Rather give it away than move it if I'm not going to use it! 3 days and I get my new apartment!! Woohoo!!

My unemployment: Day 3 "Only in New York"

So today I had a final (i *think*) interview with the place I have been in contact with, so now it's just a waiting game.
Today I had a very "only in New York" experience. I walked from my apartment up to and across the Brooklyn Bridge and down to this famous pizza place under the bridge in Brooklyn called Grimaldi's for lunch. When I got there, I asked for a table for myself and was seated at a table. The woman behind me was also by herself and the guy says in a total Brooklyn accent, "Go sit next to her!" So over she came and we exchanged hellos and then decided that it would be silly for both of us to order a pizza and take half of it home so we shared one. We ordered a fresh mozzarella and basil pizza, chatted for a few minutes (she was in from Detroit visiting a friend and running the Brooklyn half marathon on Saturday) and then split the check and went on our separate ways. I walked back across the bridge and then hopped the subway. I was already up to 4+ miles of walking by that point so I wasn't interested in upping that to 6. It was a great day. The views from the Brooklyn Bridge are awesome. You can see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island and then you look right up Manhattan the other direction. There is also a history of the bridge and its construction.
It's supposed to rain tomorrow, so I'm glad I went today!

My unemployment: Day 2

Day 2 was just as nice as day 1! I got up around 10, applied for a job, and then headed out for an afternoon at the Museum of Natural History. I took the subway to Central Park South (at 60th st) and then walked through the park up to the museum (on 81st st). The first thing I did was the planetarium show "Cosmic Collisions" which was way cool. Then I walked through all the neat exhibits in the rest of the museum for about 2 hours. I had 2 favorite things: 1. The triceratops skeleton (my fave dinosaur when I was a kid) and 2. The hallway of biodiversity which had every species represented. Both really neat.
Now, I'm home ready for Twins vs. Yankees game 2!
Tomorrow I have an interview at 11 and then I'm either going to go to the Met or walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. I haven't decided yet. It'll depend on the weather.

My unemployment: Day 1

Today has so far been a really awesome day. Last night was kind of weird...since I graduated from college, this was the first night I've gone to bed without having anything to get up for the next morning (well jobwise that is--there's plenty to get up for!!) It was a little strange, but believe me, I managed. :)
Today I woke up around 10 and got up around 11. I got my taxes together and I'm mailing them off this afternoon. Right now, I'm watching the Mets home opener on TV. Mets are losing 1-0. Had I planned much farther in advance I would have gone to the game, but it was already sold out and I didn't want to pay mucho buckos for a ticket. It's a GORGEOUS day so in about 20 minutes I'm going to head out to Central Park for a nice spin around the park. I'll come home and apply for a job sometime today but for now, I'm enjoying the beautiful afternoon!
Will keep everyone updated on my re-entry into the workforce. :)

Officially unemployed

I am officially unemployed and I couldn't be happier! Yesterday was my last day and it was really nice. I had a great lunch with the gals in my office and got a few nice gifts and cards from now former coworkers. I'm still applying for new jobs so I'll let everyone know when it's official! Until then, I'll be living a life of leisure. New York city is my playground and I'm a kid with nothing to do. :) I see large quantities of baseball in my future.

boooooo Florida

I hate the Gators.

Awesome Start!

Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau and Torii Hunter are currently each batting 1.000! If they keep this pace up, the twins are BOUND to do good things this year!
