The Rock

Things in 30 Rock are definitely different than they are at Microsoft. A few of the most noticeable:
  • No one answers their own phone. The NBC Page (like an intern) answers everyone's phone even if they're sitting in their office.
  • You have to have a key to get to the bathroom
  • There are different elevators all throughout the building and only certain ones go to certain floors. You can transfer on some floors, but I've gotten lost a few times, so basically I just go all the way down to the bottom and start over. You can catch them all at the bottom!
  • There is no wireless internet :(
  • There is a huge tunnel system below the Rock. There are restaurants, shops, the subway. You can basically walk all the way from 5th ave to 6th ave underground in these tunnels.

More parties

So I am on day 3 at "The Rock" (that's what I found out people call it) and things are going great. Last night we had our party as a part of Advertising Week. It was a Texas Hold Em poker tournament and it was a huge success. We had a bunch of agency people there and they each had one person representing their agency at 5 different tables. So then they played down to one winner at each table and then there was a championship round and we ended up with one winner. The prize was, that agency gets $125,000 worth of advertising for a day on MSNBC.com for their favorite charity. So it was really fun. Some guy from Deutsch won.
I also got the keys to my new apartment last night! Hooray! And it looks great, and I got to see the tiny dog. She is SO cute. She is in fact a chihuaua and she is teeny tiny.
A few interesting tidbits:
I went to MSNBC in Secaucus, NJ yesterday. It is a giant warehouse in the middle of this weird town in NJ. There are outlet malls right next to it. Really expensive outlet malls, like Gucci. It's weird.
I saw my first celebrity in his "natural habitat" on Sunday. Larry King was at Whole Foods.

Party Time!

Tonight, there is a going away party that my work is invited to for me over at my boss Catherine's house. She's really the one responsible for making the move happen and while I'll miss her terribly, I can't thank her enough for making a dream a reality!
Enough sap, getting back to the parties (we all know I love a party!) my wonderful friends Brian and Julia Engel with whom I have spent many a good time in Seattle since I moved here are having ANOTHER party for me tomorrow night!! That one will be at their apartment and a few of my other friends will also be attending. There is a rule that must always be followed with Julia: if you get an invitation to her house for dinner/dessert/anything she cooks, you go. She is a great cook. So I know this will be no exception!
Thanks to both host/hostesses. Even though I'm really excited to go, it means a lot to me to know that I will be missed.
Oh yeah, and my Mommy is coming to town next week to help me get organized. She's a saint.

Dorm Room

My awesome cousin Elizabeth who just started her freshman year at USC just informed me that "i actually think that my half of my dorm room is bigger than the space you're going to have". That's her HALF of the dorm room. That rocks.

8 feet 5 inches x 6 feet 6 inches

Just got an email from Stephanie. I have been trying to figure out how much of my stuff I can take and what I have to get rid of. Well, turns out, I only have 8 feet 5 inches x 6 feet 6 inches of space in my room. I'm ballparking my OFFICE right now, and it looks like it's about 8x10. YOWZA! So basically, I take my bed and book case. That's it. It will however be 8 feet 5 inches x 6 feet 6 inches in NY though!!

Success!!

Yay! So today I got a call from Stephanie, my new roommate! She is very cool and she wants me to move into her apartment starting October 1. It is a 2 bedroom and my room is REALLY small, but it's a cool apartment, and she's awesome. She's a hairstylist and when I walked into the apartment, I saw more Bed Head product than I usually see at a salon, plus she has this really tiny little dog. I was sold right then and there. It's right in the heart of the East Village, exactly where I wanted to be. So this is a huge relief, I was starting to stress about not finding something, but it all worked out.
Hurricane Katrina did not make my house hunting trip easy at all. I had more than a full 40+ hours worth of work to do while I was there, yet, I was supposed to be looking for a place at the same time. No complaining though, while I was slightly inconvenienced, many others are now looking for homes not becuase they're moving, but because their homes were destroyed.
But phew, it's all set!
Now, the packing begins. I don't actually have to pack, but I do have to eliminate a lot of crap that I have at my apartment now. I think the new place I'm moving into has about as much total space as my apartment now, and I only get 1 bedroom's worth. So all the stuff I've accumulated, has to go! My favorite thing so far from my packing: I was looking at all the stuff in my closet that I could donate to the hurricane relief effort and I came across and extra tennis racket. I thought to myself, they don't need tennis rackets, then I thought better of it and said, "Anne, some people lost everything, don't you think that also includes athletic equipment?!"
Thank you Cher Horowitz.
