Heat Wave!!

So it's been well over 100 degrees in NY with the heat index for the past 3 days. Lucky for me, I got sick. Well ok, maybe not lucky for me, but I got to stay home instead of braving the heat today and yesterday. Tuesday was pretty unbearable though and let me tell you what the absolute worst part of the heat is. The subway: BAR NONE! Now, the cars themselves are air conditioned and actually quite pleasant but there are a few things about the platform that make it absolutely excrutiating to stand there for more than 30 seconds. 1. They aren't very far underground. So unlike the DC subway where you have to take the longest escalators in the history of escalators down to the platform the NYC subway platforms are maybe 2 flights of stairs away from the street, so it hasn't started cooling off. 2. The ceilings are very low. Again let's compare with the DC subway system. The ceilings on those platforms are REALLY high. So even if it's really hot, the heat has a long way to rise up before it hits those ceilings. In NYC the ceilings are maybe 15 feet tall so the heat just sits there and unless there is a train coming, it is totally stagnant. It's brutal. Anyway, the thunderstorms are rolling in right now so the heat wave is over. Hallelujah! And I'm feeling better. Perfect timing!

We're lucky in Missoula with our subway system. Oh wait, we don't have one. (But we DID have the heat wave.)
